Optimal health is a function of the body’s ability to not only absorb and use nutrients but to also limit the accumulation of potentially harmful toxins. These toxins can be produced within us by our own metabolism, but many come from our environment (i.e.,xenobiotics).

Today there are literally thousands of chemicals being commercially synthesized, and virtually all foreign chemicals can find their way into our body because they are in our air, water, and food, or because they are purposely taken, such as drugs.

If blood concentrations of a chemical become high enough, a certain amount will be stored in the body – primarily in our fat cells. This is essentially a form of protection so that the chemical is not floating around causing damage and can be dealt with later by our liver. Sometimes though storage sites get too full, resulting in symptoms or even disease.

The body provides some protection from foreign chemicals by its natural barriers: the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and skin. However, many will cross these barriers and must be tackled by our body’s detoxification systems. These detox and defense systems include: 1) the immune tissue in our gut, and 2) the enzyme systems in our liver.

How well we provide our body with daily nutrients and phytochemicals (beneficial and functional chemicals from plant foods) has a huge affect on our detox and defense pathways and whether these systems function optimally.

We provide:

  • Assessment of your eating habits and nutritional intake as an indicator of your current processing of and protection against toxins.
  • Personalized eating plans and detoxification diets to support and enhance your body’s own detox and defense systems.
  • Assessment of your lifestyle to determine where toxins may be coming from.
  • Ideas and help to minimize foreign chemicals in your environment.
